All artwork is in some way public and either way can be exclusive.

It is not the job of art to reach consensus across different 'publics'. Every work has a meaning in its making and in the context it is shown/received. It is my experience that work conceived and presented in the context of an exchange can maintain that meaning throughout the process in a more real way. However I have seen many examples of work to defy all the limitations of my writing here.
