The STEPS

Author:

Sean Taylor

Description:

In September 2008 artist Sean Taylor began working with a Step Aerobic class at the University of Limerick Sports Arena to develop and choreograph a unique physical choral/aerobic dance based sound art work. The STEPS was a commission for the University of Limerick Arts Office, in conjunction with  the Irish Museum of Modern Art's National Programme and Education and Community Department.

The STEPS incorporated formalised aerobic/dance combinations that are familiar to the Step Aerobic routines, these movements are further complemented by a contemporary choral composition based on the vocabulary of exercises classes. On Friday 8 May 2009 two public performances of The STEPS took place in the University of Limerick Sports Arena beginning at 6.30pm.

A publication accompanied by a DVD of the STEPS was produced alongside the project.
