Secrets of Offaly - Three public art projects

Secrets of Offaly - a series of public art commissions which seeks to expose remarkable hidden stories and their origins in the county.

As described on the Offaly County Council's Arts website; 'Offaly has some unique villages, many with distinctive architecture and histories and each with curious and remarkable stories to tell. This public art project uncovers three secrets. Three stories were choosen from three different villages all the stories relate to a famous family in that area.  The Goodbodys in Clara (industry), The Hitchcocks in Kinnitty (film) and the Jolys in Clonbullogue (Science and literature).  These stories are outstanding as a collective of ‘secrets’ to be told about Offaly, conveyed in a new way, to bring a new focus on Offaly as a county of hidden gems.'

The three projects can be found on publicart.ie

Greystones Educate Together National School appointed a voluntary committee with relevant expertise to oversee the per cent for art commissioning process. An external curator, Máire Davey, was appointed specifically for her expertise in working in a highly collaborative way as meaningful involvement from the students and school was viewed as central to the process. The procurement route chosen was limited invited competition.
