Art Commission, St Francis National School, Co Louth. Budget, €24,000. Deadline 30/5/2014.

 

St Francis National School, Blackrock, Co Louth, a newly constructed primary school,  is commissioning an artist through the Department of Education and Skills Per Cent for Art Scheme.

St. Francis National School is a co-educational school, there are approximately 130 pupils in attendance. The school’s ethos encourages self esteem and respect for others, love of learning, tradition and culture, and has a strong affinity to St Francis and his love of animals and birds. The school is very proud of its designation as a green flag school, awarded for implementing, embracing and maintaining eco friendly policies.  The school’s motto is ‘Be Safe Be A Friend’.

The school is interested in receiving proposals that will place a distinct emphasis on working with pupils over a period of time resulting in a work or works that reflect the school ethos.  It is envisaged that the finished work or works would engage the children on an on-going basis.

The piece should be suitable for outdoors and incorporate St.Francis and his love for animals and birds.

Budget:

The budget for this commission is €24,000 inclusive of all costs, expenses, VAT, insurance and other charges.  The successful artist will be asked to provide a full budget for the commission and must provide a tax clearance certificate.

 

Selection Process:

The selection is a two-tier process.  The selection committee is composed of all major stakeholders: members of staff, a representative of the board of management and parents.  Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria:

·     The quality, innovation and artistic merit of the proposal

·     Impact and benefit for the school community

·     Vision for the delivery of the project outcomes in line with the school’s ethos

·     Previous work and track record (or potential) of the applicant

·     Feasibility

The committee will select 3 proposals and artists will be invited to present to the committee.

The commissioners reserve the right to not proceed with any of the submissions received.

Proposals are invited from professional artists to submit the following:

·     A typed proposal clearly outlining the details of the projects including; a description of the design, how pupils will be included in the process, a timescale for completion, a breakdown of costs, materials to be used and dimensions of the design.

·     A current CV with examples of relevant previous work (photographs of completed previous work)

·     A4 SAE for return of materials

Nazareth Housing Association provides independent living houses for individuals and couples who are 65 and over and on the Sligo County Council housing list.  Nazareth Village is comprised of 48 houses in a garden setting.  The Village was financed as a public-private partnership between Nazareth Housing Association and Sligo County Council with funding from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.
