Per Cent for Art Commission | Carrigabruise National School, Cavan

Deadline for applications: Wednesday 24 May, 12 noon.

Under the Per Cent for Art Scheme, Carrigabruise National School wishes to commission new visual artwork to celebrate and coincide with the recent construction and opening of the new extension along with the complete refurbishment of the existing school.

THE PROJECT

The aim of the commission is to provide an opportunity for artists to develop new work influenced by the history, context and aspirations of the students, teachers, parents and community of the school and the surrounding area. This building project heralds an exciting new beginning for Carrigabruise National School and the commission should reflect that. In order to convey a sense of the wonderment of children the following key words convey the message we are hoping to send through this piece of art:

Renewal, regeneration, growth, awe of childhood, rebirth, friendship between children, schools and community, relationships, pride and the sense of Coming Home.

These key words are suggested as a starting point for an artist’s interpretation.

Greystones Educate Together National School appointed a voluntary committee with relevant expertise to oversee the per cent for art commissioning process. An external curator, Máire Davey, was appointed specifically for her expertise in working in a highly collaborative way as meaningful involvement from the students and school was viewed as central to the process. The procurement route chosen was limited invited competition.
